Power Transmission

The Transmission Divisions both International & South Asia have more than 60 years of experience in construction of Transmission Lines. We have constructed some of the heaviest and tallest transmission towers in India and abroad in some of the most challenging climatic and topographic conditions like deserts, mountains, snow fields, war torn regions, thick forests, seas and rivers.

Today, the specialized transmission lines built by KEC span huge raging rivers, such as Nile in Egypt, Kosi in Bihar and Brahmaputra in India, the Arabian Sea, deserts of Saudi Arabia, Libya & Rajasthan, mountains of Algeria, India and Mozambique, war-torn regions of Iraq & Afghanistan, dense forests in MP, Bihar & Jharkhand and snowfields of Kazakhstan and Tajikistan

KEC’s talent pool comprises of engineers and technicians who are well-versed with the conventional methods of tower erection using heavy duty cranes and advanced methods involving, the use of helicopters. We possess the latest and most sophisticated design facilities which are equipped with software like BOCAD, PLS Tower, PLS CAD, 3D Analysis & Design, Google Earth, etc.

KEC’s battery of over 70 sophisticated tension stringing machines, 40 mobile & telescopic cranes, batching plants and concrete mixtures gives the Company a distinct edge to complete projects within a stringent time-frame. KEC has also developed in-house expertise to execute hot line stringing and OPGW jointing.

 

Power Distribution & Design Services

Having powered infrastructure development in India and abroad, the Distribution & Design Services division is fast bringing superior Substation & Distribution project management expertise to more clientele.

Our Project Management team comprising of Surveyors, Field Engineers, Construction Managers and Project Managers are well experienced in respective fields and experienced in executing projects in extreme climatic conditions & diverse terrains.

We have in house well experienced Design & Engineering team with state of the art software for substation design to provide very optimistic cost effective substation scheme.

We have a strong network of vendors and logistics providers in India and across the globe. This combination of Project Management, Engineering, Procurement and logistics provides the required benefits and advantages to our Clientele.

We deploy the latest equipment to deliver the best results for our clients. We have executed several projects for various Indian utilities such as PGCIL, NESCL, NHPC, JKPDD, WBSEDCL, PuVVNL, MVVNL etc and Overseas utilities like EEPCO-Ethiopia, KPLC & REA-Kenya, MEW-Afghanistan, OETC-Oman, ADWEA-Abu Dhabi and VRA-Ghana etc. These projects involved the design, testing, manufacturing and erection of LT & HT Line, Substation upto 220 kV voltage. Over a brief period the SBU has established itself a strong player in the Rural Electrification and Substation segment.

With established credentials in executing complex and challenging projects in all kinds of environment, we have repeatedly delivered projects with quality. An abundance of resources like People, Plant & Equipment, Finances etc, has enabled us to establish an enviable record in the infrastructure sphere.

 

Telecommunication

The Telecom division has expertise in building Communication Networks that involve Outside Plant (OSP) activities for Copper Fiber Networks, Telecom Tower Sites, OPGW supply and stringing under hotline conditions and Installation & commissioning of GSM and CDMA equipments. It offers superior proficiency in design, manufacture and installation of Telecom Towers with Angular, Tubular and Hybrid designs.

The division has a wide range of vendors and logistics providers to support its Project Managers, Engineers and Construction Supervisors.

With the successful completion of the USOF BOO project having worked in some of the most challenging topographies, the divison has gained immense knowledge and expertise of handling BOO projects.

 

Railways

The Railway division at KEC consists of a highly experienced and capable team of experts in project management, design and project execution across all the functional domains in Railways, namely Civil Infra, Tracks, Electrification, power systems and Signalling & Telecom. The division has developed a strong vendor base & logistic provider network in India.

The Railway division is presently handling a diverse order book with a portfolio of projects across various functional segments. The Order book pie comprises Civil Infra (80%), Electrification (11%) and Signalling & Telecom(9%) projects. The client base covers many of the Zonal railways and other Railway organizations under Indian Railways. The division is further leveraging its global presence in the Power transmission sector, and eyeing to target Railway turnkey projects around the globe, particularly in Africa , Middle East, South East Asia & South Asia.

KEC had been one of the earliest players in Railway Electrification in India - having completed a total of 5000 Track km of Electrification on Indian Railways, with 1700 Tkm (Track km) of overhead electrification work (25 kV AC) coming in the last 7 years. Over the years, the company has transformed into a complete turnkey solution provider of Railway construction in EPC space, capable of executing projects in all terrains and geographies.

The Technology

  • Clearance: HV Cables should be at a safe distance from Control/Instrumentation Circuits.
  • Trenching: It should be of minimum width and depth. It should be provided with sand bedding.
  • Protection: Covers, Clamps, Normal Backfills and Warning Tapes must be used.
  • Final : Route markers must be installed followed by final backfilling consolidation

Finally, Testing & Commissioning ensures alignment of cables, proper joints and terminations. Tests like Insulation Resistance and Sheath Integrity needs to be conducted and recorded. Pre-Commissioning test at 38 kV AC at no load for 24 hours after due approvals is done and then the system can be charged.

Power evacuation through total cabling solutions is both an art and a skill which is best left to the experts in the business.
