Mumbai, January 2, 2009 : The INR 3500 crore-plus KEC International Ltd. (KEC), a global leader in the power transmission EPC business and the transmission flagship of RPG Enterprises, India, today announced the successful completion of the important Kerawalapitiya-Kotugoda transmission line Project in Sri Lanka with cooperation from Colombo Electricity Board (CEB). This project will enable timely evacuation of 300 mega watt power from Kerawalpitiya, combine cycle power plant into National Grid.
KEC International was awarded this turnkey 220 kV double circuit project by CEB through an international competitive bidding process in February 2007. The project was funded by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).
The transmission line was constructed through the Nuthurajawella Marsh and adjoining thickly populated areas which required special design for tower foundation using innovative technology of the cast in Citu pile foundation used for the first time by CEB for transmission line project in Sri Lanka.

It is worth mentioning here that KEC has recently bagged the largest-ever international order in the company’s history from Eygpt, worth INR 636 crore. KEC also entered Tajikistan in Central Asia by bagging an INR 88 crore order and re-entered Australia by bagging a INR 42 crore order.
“Bagging orders totaling INR 766 crore in three different geographies in a short span and now the timely completion of this important Sri Lankan order showcases our project management and design capabilities and re-enforces our leadership and credibility in the power infrastructure EPC space, even in these challenging times of global economic turmoil,” Mr. Chandak said.
