The order is valued at Rs. 636 crore and will be funded by the European Investment Bank and the Egyptian National Bank. This is also the largest ever order given to an Indian transmission company in Egypt.

The order, awarded by the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, is a Turnkey project for the design, supply & construction of 500 kV double circuit lines to be completed in two lots - Lot I from Abu Quir - Kafr El-Zayat (97 kms) and Lot II from Kafr El-Zayat to Bassous (99 kms). The total length of lines is 196 Kms and the project is scheduled to be completed in 24 months.

“This is a golden day in the history of KEC. Winning an order of such a large scale, even in these challenging times, reinforces our leadership in the Transmission EPC space. The highlight of the project is that it involves taking the transmission lines across the mighty Nile river in Egypt twice, which showcases our multi-terrain project management skills,” Mr. Ramesh Chandak, Managing Director & CEO, KEC International Ltd, said on Monday.

In addition to the Egyptian order, KEC has just bagged a Rs. 42 crore order to be executed in Queensland, Australia, marking its re-entry into that country. Taken together with the recent Rs. 88 crore order from Tajikistan, KEC has now entered three new geographies in quick time, despite the challenging economic environment globally. The three countries together account for Rs. 766 crore worth of orders.
