KEC International wins orders worth Rs 980 crore in Substation Segment

Mumbai, January 3, 2011: , KEC International Ltd. (KEC), a global leader in Power Transmission & Distribution EPC business & one of the leading Infrastructure EPC company, has won 3 new substation orders to the tune of Rs. 980 crore from Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company (KEGOC) and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL). These orders follow orders worth Rs. 1,018 crore won last week.

 

The two orders received from KEGOC are for the execution, including rehabilitation, of total 38 substations spread across the North East and South of Kazakhstan. The first order is for 21 substations of voltage levels of 1150 KV, 500 KV & 220 KV. The second order is for 17 substations of voltage levels 500 KV, 220 KV & 110 KV. These orders will be executed over a period of 33 months. The orders have been received in a consortium with a local Company. The total value of these orders is Rs. 942 crore. This is the biggest ever order in the Substation segment of KEC.

 

Another order, worth Rs.38 crore, has been secured from PGCIL for supply and construction of 400 KV substation at Baharampur, West Bengal. This is the second 400 KV substation order received by the Company from PGCIL this financial year.

 

With the receipt of these orders, the Company has strengthened itself as a key player in the Substations segment globally. The company has already executed / executing substation orders in Oman, Kenya, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Bhutan, Ghana and India..

 

With the KEGOC order, the Company has reinforced its strong presence in the CIS region, having earlier executed two 500 KV transmission projects in Kazakhstan and presently executing a 220 KV transmission project in Tajikistan and 500 KV & 400 KV transmission projects in Georgia. The KEGOC substation order is a breakthrough for the Company in the Substation segment in CIS region.

 

KEC has the capability to execute projects in very extreme and difficult terrains and climate. In the CIS region, the Company has been successfully executing projects in very hostile climatic conditions of temperature up to minus 40 degree Celsius.
